CLEARING THE AIR: MDMK general secretary Vaiko with DMK president M. Karunanidhi in Chennai on Thursday.
CHENNAI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko called on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.Karunanidhi at his residence this morning here in the backdrop of reports of fissures in the Democratic Progressive Alliance. Mr.Vaiko's comparison of his party to an `O' positive donor forced the head of the seven- party DPA, Mr.Karunanidhi, to seek a clarification from the MDMK leader. "I asked him about it," Mr.Karunanidhi told The Hindu , when he was asked about the meeting. Mr.Vaiko explained that he has been using the universal donor analogy for "at least two-three years," Mr.Karunanidhi said.
Fighting force
He said the MDMK had proved itself as a valuable fighting force over the years and its strength as an ally. He had clarified his comparison to `O' positive blood donor even yesterday. Now the meeting cleared the air, the MDMK leader said. Mr. Vaiko ridiculed reports that his party would be given 16 seats and said the scenario was "unimaginable."
Charge against police
Mr.Karunanidhi alleged that it was the police which had been spreading rumours about the rift between the MDMK and the DMK. They were trying to create fissures in the alliance and were not successful. "I also hear that the same intelligence officials were surprised after we met. These rumours have no connection with Mr.Vaiko," he said. "The alliance is as strong as it was," he said.
