NAGAPATTINAM: Eighteen freedom fighters were honoured and 24 policemen given Chief Minister's police medals and Anna medals to two fire service personnel. The Collector J Radhakrishnan hoisted the national flag and took salute along with R.Tamil Chandran, Superintendent of Police, at the Republic Day parade at the stadium grounds. The fire service personnel are S. Arumugam, station fire officer, Tharangampadi and K.Paramasivam, assistant station fire officer, Nagapattinam. He distributed welfare assistance of Rs.16.12 lakh to 109 beneficiaries including physically challenged persons. He also honoured five teachers with Dr. Radhakrishnan best teacher awards. He also visited the Annai Sathya Government Orphanage at Samanthanpettai and greeted the tsunami-orphaned children and gave them sweets.
Thanjavur
M.Veera Shanmugha Moni, Collector hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the police grounds in Thanjavur. He distributed benefits of Rs.10,18,250 to 100 persons. Mr. Veera Shanmugha Moni gave Chief Minister's medals to 37 police personnel and honoured freedom fighters by presenting them shawls. Cultural programmes by school students followed the flag hoisting. Merit certificates and cash award of Rs.1000 each were given to 17 persons who saved lives when a private bus was washed away in flash floods near Pattukottai on November 25, 2005. The persons honoured were Inbasekar, Nallaperumal, Kalimuthu, Daniel, Karunakaran, Chinnadurai, Ragothaman, Ananthan Thangadurai, Senthil Kumar, Nagarajan, of Kondikulam area and Asokan, Ganesan, Veeramani, Ramesh, Bhaskaran of Kazhugupulikadu area, Durairaj of Sengamedu area and Selvaraj of Sillathur village in Orathanadu taluk in the district.
Karaikal
Sudhir Kumar, Collector, hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the impressive march past by police personnel, NCC cadets at the new stadium in Karaikal. Mr Mohanraj, Superintendent of Police, Karaikal, also took the salute. The Collector presented awards and certificates to the students who scored high marks in the X and XII Standard public examinations. He also gave a special award for the Government High School at Vizhuthiyur for admitting more number of students. The NCC cadets presented a counter terrorism show. Students from various schools presented cultural programmes.
Tiruvarur
P. Ekambaram, Tiruvarur )Collector hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the police parade. He distributed benefits of Rs.14,21,195 to 73 persons. He honoured freedom fighters by giving them umbrellas. He distributed gold medals and certificates for meritorious services to 133 Government employees and officers. Ayyaru, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) received a shield for effectively distributing flood relief. Cultural programmes were held by school students.
Karur
Collector, A. Karthik, unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute and reviewed the guard of honour here. The Superintendent of Police, K. Shankar, was present. Mr. Karthik distributed welfare measures of Rs. 42.97 lakh to 419 beneficiaries. He presented the Chief Minister's medal to eight head constables. Cash awards were given to wards of police personnel for educational excellence. Over 70 freedom fighters and their wards honoured. Twelve officials were also honoured on the occasion. Mr. Karthik gave mementos to the panchayat presidents of K. Paramathi (D.R. Periathambi), Athur Poolampalayam (K. Sadasivam) and Manjanaickenpatti (T. Maragadam) for excellent implementation of the Namadhu Gramam scheme.
