project report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government will submit a detailed report on the Kozhikode Dream City project to the Centre within three weeks. As per a decision taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Tourism Minister K.C. Venugopal, the project would be prepared jointly by eco-tourism director of Tourism Resorts Kerala Limited (TRKL) K.G. Mohanlal, the director of the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) and the representatives of the Kozhikode City Corporation and the Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council. TRKL will be the implementing agency for the project. About Rs.97 lakhs received by the CWRDM from the Centre for watershed development will be used for the project. — Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Janata Dal (Secular) State general secretary Varughese George has said that any decision on the Narendran Commission report without compensating the backward communities for loss of 18,000 posts would be tantamount to betrayal of the backward classes.

In a statement here on Thursday, he said the consensus at the Cabinet would, in effect, would result in loss of these posts forever. He also took exception to the decision to form a monitoring committee comprising heads of departments who were responsible for the denial of posts to the backward classes. — Special Correspondent

President's medal

KOCHI: E. Anwar, Deputy Commandant of Kochi City Armed Reserve Police, has been awarded the President's Medal for meritorious service this year. A native of Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Anwar joined the Kerala Police as Reserve Sub-Inspector in 1976. He served in Thiruvananthapuram Armed Reserve, Thiruvananthapuram Airport Security, State Crime Records Bureau and Police Training College before assuming charge as Deputy Commandant in Kochi City Armed Reserve Police. — Staff Reporter
