THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) has described the Government decisions relating to the Narendran Commission report insincere and meant only to hoodwink the backward communities. Briefing reporters about the deliberations at the LDF State committee meeting here on Thursday, Front convener Paloli Mohammed Kutty said the Cabinet decisions were nothing other than an `election stunt.' There was no clear estimate of the actual number of posts that the backward communities had lost. In the absence of such figures, it was difficult to see how the backward communities would be compensated, he pointed out. Mr. Mohammed Kutty felt that the decision to expand the supplementary lists of the Public Service Commission (PSC) by five times or more would not serve any purpose given the fact that even those whose names figured in the main lists were not getting jobs on account of the recruitment freeze imposed by the Government. The LDF convener, however, welcomed the Government decision to grant reservation benefits to the poorest 10 per cent of the majority communities and the decision to extend reservation benefits available to girls of minority communities to girls from economically weaker sections of all communities. But this was not sufficient to meet the aspirations of the poorer sections of the majority communities, he said. Mr. Mohammed Kutty said the LDF panel had conducted a detailed discussion about the current political situation in the State, particularly in the context of the AICC resolution to fight the Left in Kerala and West Bengal and the BJP national leadership's resolve to team up with anyone, including the Congress, to defeat the Left in Kerala and West Bengal. The nexus between the Congress and the BJP was nothing new. It was at an informal level in the fifties, but today it has assumed greater dimensions. This end-result of any attempt by the Congress to join forces with such elements would be the strengthening of communal forces. The LDF would organise a campaign to enlighten the people about this, he added. He said nobody had raised the question of accommodating the Democratic Indira Congress(Karunakaran) in the LDF at Thursday's meeting. Nor was there any discussion on the differences within the LDF over the acceptance of the ADB loan by urban local bodies controlled by the LDF.
