Government committed to providing a corruption-free administration

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Governor, Balram Jakhar, on Thursday paid rich tributes to the country's valiant freedom fighters saying it was due to their supreme sacrifice that we are able to celebrate the Republic Day.

After taking the salute at a special march-past here, the Governor said: "Our leaders had taken the oath on January 26, 1928, to make India a free and sovereign nation and it was 56 years ago on January 26, 1950, that this dream came true." Dr. Jakhar said the ideals of our great freedom fighters are amply reflected in the Constitution that symbolises the spirit of freedom, equality, secularism and protects the fundamental rights of the citizens as well as gives clear directives for the welfare and uplift of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Every year this day gives us the opportunity for self-appraisal, the Governor said, adding that it was essential for us to review and understand how much we have succeeded in protecting the values enshrined in our Constitution.

The Governor said Madhya Pradesh had been blessed with a vast forest cover and huge natural resources. The State Government's main priority is to work for the welfare of SCs/STs, other backward classes and minorities.

"The Government is also committed to providing a corruption-free and result-oriented administration. For regaining people's faith and confidence, the effort is on at the State Government level to develop an administrative system that can maintain a constant dialogue with the people as well as remain sensitive to their problems," the Governor said.

In his message, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said Republic Day was an occasion to re-affirm faith in the Constitution. He called upon the citizens to be aware of their constitutional rights and duties. He said the State Government had resolved to make Madhya Pradesh a developed State with people's active participation and cooperation.
