HIGH HOPES: District Collector Y.V. Anuradha speaking at function organised by GFCL in connection with the Republic Day at Anantapur on Thursday.
ANANTAPUR: Comprehensive development of 401 gram panchayats selected under the first phase of Indiramma scheme will be taken in April this year, Collector Y.V. Anuradha, has said. Speaking after hosting the national flag on the occasion the Republic Day celebrations here on Thursday she hoped that all villages covered under Indiramma scheme would transform into model villages. To ensure at least 100 days of wage work to each of the wage seeking families in rural areas the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme would be launched in the district from February 2, she stated. Works aimed at improving productivity would be taken up under the scheme. Works like soil and moisture conservation, land development, drought proofing, plantation, desiltation of irrigation channels would be mostly taken up under the NREGP scheme. Even the land development works in the fields of wage seekers would also be covered under the scheme, the Collector explained. The Collector also explained in details various other development and welfares schemes being implemented in the district. Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar Jain, District Judge, S. Chinnaiah, several other dignitaries including officials and non-officials also attended. Later, the Collector presented commendation certificates to persons from different walks of life including employees for their meritorious services. At another function, the Collector urged the management of Godavari Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited to extend merit scholarships to outstanding girls in rural areas in all high schools. Handing over the third installment of merit scholarships to 100 girls from rural areas in the district she said the scholarship given in three installments would help merit students from poor families to continue their education. On the lines of its present coverage of two outstanding girls each from 50 zilla parishad high schools in rural areas, based on their performance in ninth standard, the girls studying Intermediate II year too should be helped based on their performance in the first year, the Collector suggested. e said. A functionary of GFCL, G. Ravi Prasad, said widening the purview of their merit scholarships would depend on the performance of the girls who had received the benefit this year.
24-hour-drinking water
Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy on Thursday called upon the Municipal Corporation officials and employees to strive to provide round-the-clock drinking water supply and other public amenities. Speaking after hoisting the national flag in Republic Day celebrations in the corporation office, he recalled the services rendered by eminent national leaders during the freedom movement. He assured to serve people in a selfless manner. Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha exhorted staff to strive for developing the corporation.
