1,000-cr. works on at brisk pace in Kadapa district

KADAPA: Kadapa district is developing at a rapid pace and works costing Rs. 1,000 crores are progressing briskly in the education, health and agriculture sectors, Collector G. Ashok Kumar said on Thursday.

Delivering his Republic Day address after hoisting the national flag at Police parade grounds here, he said, Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences was being built with Rs. 170 crores, Yogi Vemana University granted Rs. 130 crores and Buggavanka stream course running amidst Kadapa town was being widened and beautified with Rs. 65 crores, he said.

Telugu Ganga project, whose completion was uncertain till last year, was being completed to irrigate 1.85 lakh acres of ayacut in the district, the Collector said. Pothireddipadu head regulator capacity would be augmented and works on Galeru Nagari, Gandikota project, Chitravathi balancing reservoir and modernization of Mylavaram project were progressing expeditiously, he said.

Revival of sugar mill

Kadapa Cooperative Sugars Limited at Chennur was being revived after overcoming obstacles, Mr. Kumar stated. In a bid to boost dairy farming, milk chilling centre at Pulivendula was revived and machinery installed at Rayachoti milk chilling centre with DRDA assistance, he said.

Job scheme

Poor rural families would be provided 100 days of work in a year under Employment Guarantee Programme, to be launched on February 2, with an outlay of Rs. 100 crores by the Government. Remote villages would be developed under `Indiramma' scheme in 2006-07, he said.

A 4,000-house satellite city was being built in Chennur mandal for providing housing to poorer sections affected by Buggavanka floods, he said.
