Ruskin Bond to

head jury panel

NEW DELHI: Well-known author Ruskin Bond will head the national jury panel for the "Classmate Young Author Contest 2005". The Delhi city final of CYAC-2005 will take place at Kalka Public School in Alaknanda this Saturday.

The writings this year will revolve round science fiction, thrillers and fantasy. Before the contest, there will be a special workshop for the participants to give them first hand tips on creative writing.

The CYAC 2005 winner will be awarded a seven-day trip to London for a literary tour covering London, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Edinburgh.

Traders to stage dharna

NEW DELHI: To protest against the Centre's decision to allow foreign direct investment in retail trade, trade leaders from different States will stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar here next Monday. The traders will also launch a "Sampurn Vyapar Swarajya" (Absolute Trade Sovereignty) movement the same day.

Coming together under the banner of the Confederation of All India Traders, they will also launch a nationwide signature campaign against FDI in retail trade as they feel it is a serious threat to domestic trade in the country.

PNB inks deal

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Small Industries Development Bank of India and Small and Medium Enterprises Rating Agency of India.

Signed earlier this week, the MoU is aimed at strengthening Punjab National Bank's hold in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. The bank is among the few that have registered a growth of more than 20 per cent in extending credit to the SME sector during 2004-2005 as against the 16 per cent growth of the banking system.

IGNOU recruitment

test on February 5

NEW DELHI: The written test for recruitment to the post of Assistant Regional Directors at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be held on February 5 at Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and Patna.

According to an IGNOU release, communication in this regard has been sent to the candidates. Those who have not received letters can contact the Director, Academic Co-ordination Division of IGNOU on telephone Nos. 011-29534231 and 011-29533417.

Literacy campaign

New Delhi: In a bid to make the National Capital fully literate, voluntary organisation Sewa Bharati inaugurated its literacy campaign here on Thursday.

With about 1,200 volunteers working for one hour every day, the first phase of the campaign, covering all the slum clusters and JJ colonies across Delhi, proposes to make fully literate nearly 50,000 people.
