WARANGAL: The district administration is making elaborate arrangements for the Medaram Samakka-Sarakka jatara, which is scheduled to be held from February 15 to 18, in the district. The district administration is expecting over 70 lakh pilgrims for the biennial jatara. Speaking after unfurling the tricolour, Collector Benhur Mahesh Dutt Ekka said that the Government had allocated Rs. 14 crores for the jatara. The administration is taking measures to provide facilities to the pilgrims visiting the jatara, he said.
Devadula project
He also said that the land acquisition for the Devadula lift irrigation project was progressing fast in the district and added that the project was designed to provide irrigation facilities to about 4.45 lakh acres in the district and also drinking water to the Warangal town. He said that the Government was taking steps to irrigation facilities to all villages in the district with the Devadula, SRSP and SRSP flood flow canal projects. He said that the Government had allocated Rs. 100 crores for the repairs of minor and medium irrigation projects in the district. He said that the rain and flash floods in the district had caused damage to the tune of Rs. 6 crores in the district.
Community kitchens
Sangareddy: Medak district Collector B. Venkatesam announced that the concept of community kitchens in villages would be introduced this year to feed the poor and landless. He said this at the Republic Day parade here on Thursday. Announcing the commitment of the Government to convert Medak as a hunger free district, the Collector elaborated a slew of programmes aimed at development of the district. He pointed out that the job scheme to be implemented state-wide from February 2 would be of particular advantage to the backward district.
Indiramma programme
The Collector said that 399 villages in the district were selected for the implementation of Indiramma programme meant for infrastructure development of the villages. Similarly, the district is implementing Indira Prabha programme under which cultivation of medicinal plants with a buyback guarantee by a Bangalore-based firm has been launched. The project is implemented in 500 acres in Jeerlapallai and Miriampur villages. Medak also introduced the interactive telephone compliant redresser system Manjeera Sravanthai and Samanuyollo Asamanyulu a programme to identify and felicitate achievers among the common people around us. Mr. Venkatesam announced that work on the widening of National Highway 9 is progressing and work on the National highway 7 would also begin shortly. He said that the four lining of the approach road from NH 9 to Sangareddy town would be undertaken at a cost of five crore rupees. After distribution of assets worth Rs. 9.32 crores, the Collector also handed over mementos to employees of various departments.
