Maoists blast Punnami restaurant

Correspondent

MAHBUBNAGAR: Maoists blasted the Punnami restaurant run by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation near Mannanur in Amrabad mandal on the road to Srisailam on Thursday evening.

According to information reaching the district headquarters, a group of extremists planted explosives and blasted them, bringing down the cement concrete structures of the restaurant and badly damaging the interiors at about 8.30 p.m.

It is learnt that earlier on Wednesday evening, the Maoists had affixed posters appealing to people not to cooperate with "Nalladandu," a breakaway group of CPI (Maoist).

They also asked officials not to take up any rural electrification works in the area.

The restaurant is located about 140 km away from here in deep jungles, close to the Forest department checkpost.

Until late on Thursday evening, no policemen ventured to reach the spot.
