Development linked to education, says Lord Mayor of German city

German city invests 600 million euros to improve infrastructure every year

    HYDERABAD: Education is key to economic development. And in these competitive times of a globalised economy, the importance of investing in education along with health should not be lost sight of, according to Lord Mayor of German City of Stuttgart Wolfgang Schuster.

    Stuttgart is home to big brands Mercedes, Bosch and many other hi-tech industries. It continuously invests in itself so as to maintain its pre-eminent global status. His city has a long tradition of local self-government, which runs even the local international airport, hospitals and conducts trade fairs too. "The city invests 600 million euros to improve upon its infrastructure every year," said Mr. Schuster.

    He was addressing a seminar on positioning of a city in global competition organised by Hyderabad Management Association and Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Elected District Commissioner of Sigmaringen Dirk Gaerte gave a presentation on the economic opportunities of his area.

    Chairman of APSFC M. Gopalakrishna, C.K. Veeresh, vice-president, Business Development, Computer Associates and HMA president S. Sivakumar spoke.
