CHENNAI: The three medical practitioners from the city who were chosen for the Padma awards have rededicated themselves to their respective causes. V. Shanta, Cancer Institute executive chairperson (honorary) and recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for outstanding contribution in the treatment of cancer, said: "I am happy about the Padma Bhushan award. But more than recognition, it is financial support that will help us sustain our efforts. Funding has become a problem as the inter-government aid we were receiving till a couple of years ago has now been stopped for all non-governmental voluntary organisations." "Such aid should be restored as we need to import more advanced equipment. We have expertise to handle such equipment but we do not have the required equipment," she said. Padma Shri awardee Dr. Mohan Kameswaran, founder, Madras ENT Research Foundation, said: "I am deeply humbled by the recognition. To me, it is recognition of the work we have been doing for the deaf community, especially children. It is also recognition of team effort, of everyone who has contributed to the cause."
Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. J. Agarwal, chairman, Dr. Agarwal's Group of Eye Hospitals, said: "This award is not for me. It
