Power shut down

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in the following areas on January 28 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work: Kilpauk, Government Estate, TV Pet, Muthialpet, Pulianthope, Nammalwarpet, Nungambakkam, K. Kannadasan Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kadapperi SS, Guindy SS, Gopalapuram, Flower Bazaar, Alwarpet, Mandaiveli, Sowcarpet (East), Padi SS, Ayapakkam SS, Kottivakkam, Porur and Kundrathur, St Thomas Mount, Iyappanthangal and Arumbakkam. Supply will be resumed before 5 p.m. if the work is completed.

Inter-school competitions

Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School held inter-school competitions for the Chellammal Rolling Trophy. There were scores of participants from neighbouring schools in Tambaram. NSN Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chitlapakkam, won the trophy.

Zion Matriculation's 20th annual day celebrations will be held on January 28 at 5 p.m. Director of Elementary Education K. Mariappan will be the chief guest. G. Arivola, joint director of Sarva Shiksha Abhayan, will be the guest of honour.

Free yoga classes

from February 5

Satyananda Yoga Centre will be conducting free yoga classes for a month.

The classes by Krishnayogam will begin on February 5 and will be held at Bala Vidya Higher Secondary School, 30, Vasudevapuram, West Mambalam from 5.30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Call 94449 44502 for registration or getting details.

number changed

The Aavin 24-hour consumer helpline number has changed from 1600-425-3300 to 1800-425-3300.

Free eye camp at

old age home

Rajan Eye Care Hospital, in association with Rotary Club of Chennai Towers, conducted free eye screening camp at Sai Charan Old Age Home, Medavakkam on January 26.

Sixteen patients have been referred for cataract surgery at Rajan Eye Care hospital. Free medicines and spectacles were given to eight patients.

`Biscuit bandits'

strike again

`Biscuit bandits' robbed two men of their possessions on a train from New Delhi that arrived here on Thursday morning.

Ramanathan, 50, of Srirangam in Tiruchi district and Sharma, 24, of Universal Corporation, Dehra Dun Road, Saharam district, Uttar Pradesh, who were travelling by (2622) Tamil Nadu Express in the S1 coach, were found unconscious and admitted to the Government General Hospital here by the Railway police on Thursday around 10 a.m.

Enquiries by the police showed that the two men could recall having tea at Warangal around 10 p.m. on Wednesday but did not know what happened later.

The GH police suspect the two travellers might be the victims of `biscuit bandits'.
