Prelate's death: prayers held
HYDERABAD
: Members of the Indian Orthodox Church conducted special prayers in their churches at Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Jeedimetla and Ramachandrapuram on Thursday following the demise of former Supreme head of the Church Mar Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews II Catholicos at Kottayam in Kerala in the evening.
The former Catholicos had been ailing for some time. He had abdicated the `throne' in October, 2005. As soon as his demise was known, church bells rang and members gathered at St. Gregorios Orthodox Cathedral. Special prayers will be held daily till his funeral on Saturday. A condolence meeting will be held on Sunday after Holy Mass, according to Cathedral Vicar Fr. M.P. Jacob.
