THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Coast Guard Day will be celebrated on February 1 under the auspices of the Coast Guard stations at Vizhinjam and Fort Kochi, according to a press release here. As part of the celebrations, a cycle expedition by the Coast Guard Kochi team was flagged off on Thursday at Fort Kochi by Commandant U.N. Bharathi, Commanding Officer, Coast Guard District No.4. The 15-member team will arrive at the Coast Guard Station, Vizhinjam, at 10 a.m. on January 28. The expedition is aimed at involving the force personnel in adventurous activities and to enhance awareness among the coastal community about the Coast Guard. During the three-day expedition, the team will interact with the local community at various coastal areas of Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. On January 28, the ICG ship at Vizhinjam harbour will be open for schoolchildren, from 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. On January 29, civilian authorities and mediapersons can have a day at sea on board the ship.
