Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old youth accused in several criminal cases, including attempt to murder, theft and assault. The operation also yielded stolen gold items totalling 20 sovereigns. A police team led by special squad Assistant Commissioner Sharafuddin zeroed in on Suresh at a house near Parottukonam in the Medical College police station limits. On seeing the police, Suresh fled the scene. He was overpowered after a hot chase. The police said Suresh had over 22 cases registered at the Mannar police station, Alappuzha. He is wanted in connection with five cases of attempt to murder, including an attack on his uncle. He is also accused of causing serious injuries to a constable at the Mannar station. The police said Suresh was a key link in a racket involving the sale of stolen items in the city. The gold found in his possession was meant to be sold at a jewellery shop in Alappuzha. Suresh had admitted to acting as a conduit for selling goods stolen by many thieves operating in the city, they added. The special squad has launched a hunt to nab the others involved in the stolen goods racket.
