MADURAI: The Mayor, C. Ramchandran, hoisted the national flag at the Republic Day function held at Anna Maligai on Thursday. Unfurling the tricolour, he said that the Corporation was planning to issue birth and death certificates within 15 minutes from submission of applications as part of the on-going e-governance programme. The civic body has already implemented payment of property tax, water charges and deposits for underground drainage through online computerised system. Besides, payment of taxes through credit cards and through mobile tax collection centres has also been introduced. The Corporation has procured 89 new computers to provide touch-screen information centres for the public and one mobile tax collection centre each for the four zones, besides computerising toll collection centres on the Inner Ring Road. It would establish a modern entertainment park near the Mattuthavani integrated bus stand at a cost of Rs. 9 crore. The park, to be named `Enadhu India' (My India), would be on the lines of Hathi Park in Delhi. Later, he distributed prizes to winners of various competitions conducted in connection with the Republic Day and honoured 27 meritorious staff. The Deputy Mayor, S.S. Ghouse Basha, the Commissioner, D.J. Dinakkaren, and councillors were present.
