Two doctors killed, three injured in road accident

BANGALORE: Two sisters, both London-based doctors, were killed and three were injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed a lorry on Hebbal Ring Road on Thursday.

The police said the marriage of one of the two sisters was scheduled for February 18.

The names of the two sisters were given as Nivedita (26) and Mangala (24), daughters of B.S. Sakenahalli who runs a nursing home at Kalyan Nagar here.

The police said Dr. Nivedita and Dr. Mangala had come to Bangalore from London for the former's marriage.

Dr. Sakenahalli and his three daughters and the groom's father, Nageshwarappa, were returning in the car to Bangalore after distributing marriage invitation cards in Davangere.

Around 3.30 p.m., Mr. Nageshwarappa, who was driving the car, rammed the lorry that was parked in the middle of the road.

While Dr. Nivedita and Dr. Mangala were killed on the spot, the sister, Thrupti (22), Dr. Sakenahalli and Nageshwarappa suffered serious injuries. They have been admitted in a hospital. The Hebbal Traffic Police have registered a case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West) Basavaraj Y. Malaghatti, who visited the spot, told The Hindu that two truck drivers had parked their vehicles in the middle of the roads following a minor accident and were quarrelling with each other.

Three killed in accident

Three persons were killed and two were injured when a vehicle rammed the van in which they were travelling on National Highway 4 in Dobbspet police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Wednesday.

The police said the accident occurred around 11.30 p.m. near Billanakunte. While Jagadishwara (32) and Padma Surendranath (42) were killed on the spot, Krishna Murthy (33) died of injuries at a hospital in Tumkur.

The injured, Naveen Kumar and Adi Ramesh, have been admitted in a hospital in Tumkur. The passengers, who were from Koratagere in Tumkur district, were going back home from Bangalore, the police said.

The Dobbspet police have registered a case.
