Investors' meet
Staff Reporter
KOLLAM:
The Animal Husbandry Department is organising an investors' meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
B. Ashok, Director of the department, announced this here on Friday at a gathering of farmers who had come to attend a seminar on "Employment and employment opportunities in the farming sector.''
Dr. Ashok said the investors' meet, to be held by March, would give a thrust to attracting non-resident Indians to invest in the animal husbandry sector of Kerala. Earlier, inaugurating the seminar, Minister for Labour Babu Divakaran said urgent measures should be taken to attract the younger generation to the farming sector. Though cash crops were important, it was painful to note that, to a large extent, their invasion was at the cost of traditional crops.
He wanted large-scale mechanisation of the farming sector since it faced an acute shortage of labour. The Minister wanted strict measures for maintaining the quality of the State's farm produce. P. Rajendran, MP, inaugurated an exhibition of animals and birds at the venue of the seminar.
