KOCHI: Until the end of the December 2005, a total of 699 enterprises have launched operations in Ernakulam district under the Prathyasa scheme, which the Department of Industries hopes will generate more than two lakh jobs through 25,000 new enterprises all over the State. By the end of this financial year, Ernakulam District Industries Centre (DIC) hopes to register 2,500 units and generate employment for about 10,000 people through these enterprises.
Rs. 30 crore outlay
Among the new enterprises that have begun operations in the district are a homoeo medicines manufacturing unit, garment-making units, units making wood products, offset printing units, Information Technology-enabled services units as well as coir and plastic products units. The projects involve a total investment of Rs.30 crores. Of a total of 4,763 applications that were registered with the DIC, 4,530 were found eligible at the end of the second round of screening. Of these, 2,713 come under the general category while 1,800 fall under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana scheme. So far, loans have been sanctioned for 392 units in the general category and 1,240 in the PMRY category bringing the total units that have accessed loans to 1,632. The units that have now begun operations are spread across various parts of the Ernakulam district and they will provide jobs to 3,000 people.
