Congress "exploiting" Muslim sentiments
Allahabad:
Charging the Congress with "deliberately messing up" the issue of Aligarh Muslim University's minority status, the Samajwadi Party on Friday said it was "exploiting Muslim sentiments in its pursuit of vote bank politics."
"The Congress had deliberately left loopholes... while provision was being made for 50 per cent reservation for Muslims at the AMU," the party's national secretary and AMU's executive council member, Hafiz Mohammad Usman, told reporters here.
"Had it been serious about the matter, it would have first got an Act to this effect passed in the Parliament. It did not do so as it was interested only in Muslim votes and not their welfare," he alleged.
Mr. Usman, who is also chairman of Sunni Central Wakf Board's Uttar Pradesh unit, said "Muslims must not be hoodwinked by the Congress which has only played with their feelings be it the case of Shah Bano or AMU." PTI
