HYDERABAD: The 210-MW capacity third unit of the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station has broken all previous records at national level by carrying generation activity non-stop for 406 days. The previous best record was held by a 500-MW unit of the NTPC's thermal power complex at Ramagundam which generated power uninterruptedly for 405 days a day less. A press note from the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation says that the Vijayawada unit had joined the grid on December 14, 2004. It was operated for 406 days continuously and it did not suffer any tripping. The unit generated 1955.9 million units of power, running at a plant load factor of 95.54 per cent. AP Genco MD Ajay Jain complimented the unit's staff for the distinction achieved.
