Row over boat club site settled

Correspondent

Kakinada: The row over the boat club site between the NCC Unit authorities and the Municipal Corporation was amicably settled following discussions held in presence of MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna on Friday.

K. V. Mohan, Colonel, NCC Group Commander in charge of East and West Godavari besides Krishna Districts took part in the discussions.

The corporation agreed to provide a suitable alternative site besides construction of a pucca building along the boat club tank to enable the NCC authorities to continue training for NCC cadets in boat rowing, pulling and sailing in the boat club tank.

Col. Mohan agreed to vacate the existing site only after the corporation hands over the alternate site along with newly constructed building.

The controversy arose following the levelling of part of the site by the corporation as a part of the boat club bund beautification, without the knowledge of the NCC authorities. The site and the building, though belonged to the municipality, were leased out to the NCC during January 2000 for a 10-year period.
