Draft voters' list released

ERODE: The draft voters' list was released in the district on Friday for the 10 Assembly segments.

After releasing it, the Collector who is also the District Election Officer, D. Karthikeyan, said that the list had been exhibited in 1625 designated locations like schools and Post Offices. The voters may visit the respective polling booths and verify their names in the list.

The Collector said 1,661 officials had been deployed for the exercise and will be available during working hours till February 11. The voters after verifying the list may represent their problems like deletion of the names or mistakes in the list. He said if the names were found missing in the list, the voters may collect forms from the polling booth and after duly filling in the same, may submit it to the officials concerned. He said, "based on the Election Commission's instruction, the officials will not receive bulk applications from the public. They will not receive forms from political parties, but will receive it from individuals and their family members."

For the benefit of the voters, a special campaign would be conducted on February 4 when the inclusion and deletion forms will be received from the voters. He said the new inclusions would be made in the voters list on or before February 16 and the final list would be published on February 27.

The Collector appealed to the voters to make use of the opportunity. During the Lok Sabha election, there were 1,852 polling booths in Erode district, except Dharapuram Assembly constituency and due to the recent rains, some polling booths, which were located in schools, were damaged.

For the Assembly poll, there would be 1,989 polling booths. He said that if the voters experience any problem with verifying the list, they might contact him over Phone No. 0424 2260209.
