Super-specialty facility promised at hospital

ALAPPUZHA: The State Government will take steps to introduce super-specialty facilities in Alappuzha district government hospital, Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal has said. He was speaking at a function after laying the foundation stone for the intensive care unit of the paediatrics department of the Alappuzha Government Women and Children's Hospital, a part of the district hospital, on Friday.

The Minister said the Government would introduce super-speciality facilities in the district hospital once the Alappuzha medical college was shifted from its building in the town to the campus at Vandanam, near Ambalappuzha. Mr. Venugopal said the Government had allotted Rs. 48 lakhs for the development of the district hospital. He said it would allot an additional Rs. 48 lakhs for hospital development.

The Minister inaugurated the renovated children's ward and outpatient block of the hospital. Municipal chairman P.P. Chitharanajan presided. K.S. Manoj, MP, delivered the keynote address. District Medical Officer N.K. Velayudhan, his deputy, K.P. Salim, and hospital superintendent P.S. Reghuthaman participated.
