Warrant against Sansar Chand

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) here on Friday issued a warrant for production of notorious poacher Sansar Chand to face trial in as many as six cases of violations of wildlife laws. ACMM Sanjiv Jain directed the Jaipur Jail Superintendent in Rajasthan to produce the accused before the court on February 10.

ACMM issued the warrant on an application by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) urging the court to summon the accused as they wanted to begin his trial in one of the six cases in which the Kamla Nagar police here had seized 41 pieces of leopard skin from his possession.

The six cases were initially registered by the Delhi police but they were transferred to CBI for further probe. Sansar Chand, his wife and son are at present lodged in Jaipur Jail and facing trial along with his accomplices there under the wildlife laws. There are as many as 57 cases against him registered in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. CBI on January 6 charge-sheeted him under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
