IN PROTEST MODE: TDP deputy leader in the Assembly T. Devender Goud waving to the crowds after garlanding the statue of N.T. Rama Rao in Karimnagar town on his way to Adilabad to launch `Godavari Jala Sadhana padayatra'
NIZAMABAD: The District Congress Committee said that the Telugu Desam Party has no moral right to take out a padayatra demanding Godavari water for Telangana region. In an open letter to the TDP leaders, DCC president Gadugu Gangadhar said that the TDP should introspect what it had done for the region. Criticising former Minister and TDP leader T. Devender Goud, who is leading the yatra, he said Mr. Goud launched the programme to improve his image in the party. "Neither he nor any other TDP leader showed interest to develop the region while they were in power," he said. The Congress leader posed 15 questions to the TDP for taking out the padayatra. Following are some of the queries: "Was it not the Congress which had taken up the Pranahita-Chevella scheme and was it not the TDP which neglected this project ?. Whether had they initiated any step for the project if so were they in a position to make it public?. TDP president Chandrababu Naidu visited Siripur for six times as Chief Minister. However, he had never talked about the Pranahita Project. When the proposal for this project was submitted in May 2005 in the very next month the Government issued orders for a detailed survey. Was it not true?. Was it not the Congress which amended the proposal to irrigate 12 lakh acres under the project immediately after some Congress leaders requested for so ?. Did it not mirror the sincerity of the Congress and "why did not you do it when you were in power" ?. "Are you able to show as to how many projects were completed on Godavari in your Government ?".
