CHENNAI: The Assembly passed the Bill on Common Entrance Test and the Bill enabling the Government to take over administration of the cable television network. Opposition parties staged a walkout amid noisy scenes when the Cable TV Bill was being passed. The CET Bill seeks to conduct an entrance test for students from streams other than the State Board. Most parties welcomed the Bill, but wanted the government to make a thorough study. S.R.Balasubramoniyan, Congress leader, pressed for a division, but his request was not heeded; the House passed the Bill with a voice vote. The Assembly also passed a Bill reducing the tax on cement produced in the State to 14 per cent (at present it ranges from 16 to 26 per cent) and one extending the term of special officers of Pappapatti, Keeripatti, Nattarmangalam and Kottakachiyendhal panchayats.
Adjourned sine die
The twelfth Assembly came to a close with the passage of all Bills listed for being taken up. It passed the final supplementary statement for further expenditure for 2005-06. The House later adjourned sine die.
