Film society to mark anniversary

Seminar on cinema, screening of K.B.Tilak's films planned

VISAKHAPATNAM: A discussion on "cinema - society-- responsibility" and K.B. Tilak retrospective are being arranged on Saturday as part of the third anniversary of Vizag Film Society (VFS).

At a press conference here on Friday, VFS vice-president P. Bobby Vardhan, secretary Narava Prakasa Rao and member Rayaprolu Nehru, gave details of the programme. VFS was formed to create a good understanding about cinema, study cinema and its history, support production of creative movies, arrange screening of movies with social values and clean movies which an entire family could watch.

Affiliated to the Federation of Film Societies of India and a member of the National Film Archives of India, VFS was arranging screening of good movies and old Telugu movies and award winning cinemas of other States, Oscar award winning movies.

On VFS' objectives, they said it had taken up screening of good movies that failed to get distributors. VFS was also planning to establish a film library. Film festivals of Bhanumathi, B. Narasinga Rao and V. Santaram were also being planned. Regarding the seminar to be held on Saturday, Prof. Vardhan said the programme would be initiated by Sahitya Akademi awardee Y. Lakshmi Prasad with Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy as chief guest. K.B. Tilak and president of the Andhra Pradesh Children Film Producers Association, Chiranjeevi, would also be present.

Later, the K.B. Tilak retrospective would be held. Tilak's 1974 film "Bhoomi Kosam'' would be screened to mark its inauguration.

His other films, `Muddubidda', `Kolleti Kapuram' and 'Uyyala Jampala' would be screened on February 4, 11 and 18 respectively.
