Nagarathna and Marutheesh were convicted for murdering the former's husband

Bangalore: The V Fast Track Court convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment a woman and her paramour who had murdered her husband. The court also fined Nagarathna (29) and K.R. Marutheesh (21) Rs. 5,000 each. The Basaveshwaranagar police had filed a charge sheet in the court stating that on September 18, 2004, Nagarathna made her husband C.N. Ramesh (36) consume soft drinks mixed with sleeping pills.

After Ramesh fell asleep, Nagartahna and Marutheesh strangled him with a rope. Later, they carried Ramesh's body on a motorcycle and threw it into a stream, off Vrasahabavathi valley, near Mylasandra Gate. They had partially burnt the body before dumping it, the charge sheet said.

When Ramesh was not seen for many days his sister, Rathnamma, lodged a complaint with the Basaveshwaranagar police that Nagarathna and Marutheesh could have murdered him. Though the police could not trace the body, they arrested Nagarathna and Marutheesh on the basis of available evidence and filed a charge sheet against them in the court.
