According to a BPRD spokesperson, the recipient of the award, B.V. Trivedi, has contributed immensely in various fields like criminology, police science, criminal law and correctional administration both at the national as well as international level.
Petition seeks demolition
The PIL filed by Counsel C S Rahtour for petitioner Hazi Nasiruddin said there was rampant illegal constructions in 400 unauthorised colonies in active collusion with some officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Police. Despite the order of the High Court on November 3, 1997 in the Common Cause vs the Union of India, the authorities had failed to prevent mushrooming of illegal constructions both in authorised and unauthorised colonies, the petition said.
10-year jail term
for raping minor
The convict Nekh Pal's accomplice, Manoj, who helped in kidnapping the victim to Pal's native place in Uttar Pradesh, was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment. ``Since, it stands proved that the victim was below 16 years of age at the time of commission of offence, hence, even if it is assumed that she was a consenting party it will not absolve the accused from the henious offence,'' observed Additional Sessions Judge J M Malik.

City court acquits Imam
Patiala House Court Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S P Garg, acquitted Mohd Khalid, Imam of Madina Masjid, due to lack of evidence and given the benefit of doubt. The accused denied his involvement in committing rape and said he had been falsely implicated in this case.
