NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the positive response to its book search service, Google's Strategic Partner Development Manager Gautam Anand on Saturday announced that the hugely popular website would soon be promoting books in Hindi and other Asian languages. Speaking at a seminar on "Google and the Google Book Search Programme" organised at the ongoing New Delhi World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan, Mr. Anand said the Google book search, a free worldwide sales and marketing system of promoting books, had successfully enabled publishers in the United States and European countries to promote their books. "It will now be available to Indian publishers as well as those based in China, Japan and Korea," he added. "Our mission is to organise all the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Right now, millions of net surfers are visiting our book search service. We have enabled publishers to put their books in front of a potential buyer. If the user finds a particular book relevant, then he or she can look into a few pages. It is just like browsing through a book at a library. Our main goal is to see to it that publishers succeed in attracting a number of readers," said Mr. Anand. As far as commercial transaction was concerned, a person could buy a book either through online retailers or from the nearest shop in the city. At present, the book search contains not just books but also journals.
