Indian, Chinese officials hold border meeting

Srinagar: Indian and Chinese border personnel held a "cordial" `Spring Festival' meeting along the Line of Actual Control in Jammu and Kashmir where the two sides expressed satisfaction at the ongoing confidence building measures, a defence spokesman said on Saturday.

Despite chilling winds and low temperatures, the Chinese officials accorded warm hospitality to the Indian military delegation, led by Brigadier Manvendra Singh, which arrived at the Chinese Moldo Garrison in area opposite Ladakh on January 24.

Spring festival is celebrated in China to welcome the New Year as per the Chinese lunar calendar.

After the ceremonial welcome, the Chinese delegation leader Senior Colonel Awang Duoji said the ongoing confidence building measures have been effective and fruitful, the spokesman said.

"The meeting between the two border institutions was successful and was held in most cooperative and cordial manner which would further enhance the trust and cooperation between the border troops of India and China in consonance with border peace and tranquillity agreements between the two nations,'' he added. — PTI
