Irina triumphs

MUMBAI: Irina Brar (Chandigarh) showed her class against Anjali Chopra (Delhi) to win the 36-hole Allahabad Bank 89th all-India ladies golf championship at the BPGC on Saturday.

The event is co-sponsored by Grover Vineyards, Jet Airways and Kaya Skin Clinic.

Anjali went two-up in the first three holes, then lost her form as Irina gained in confidence to finish seven up after the first 18 holes. The defending champion went nine up after 22nd hole, kept her composure despite a late resurgence by her rival.

The results: (finals): Irina Brar (Chandigarh) bt Anjali Chopra (Delhi) eight up after 30 holes; Vikramaditya Trophy: Rani Maheshwari bt Bunty Khanna five up/13th hole. D T Challenge: Anju Chopra bt Nimmi Gowrishankar six up/12th hole.
