Shishira
Shishira's maiden attempt at donning the greasepaint for the small screen has been rewarded with the Kerala State Television Award for the best child artiste. Shishira played the role of a girl whose parents had died in the TV serial `Manathekku Parakkan Va' telecast on Kairali TV. The girl is brought up by her grandfather. She goes to stay at a boarding school, where she meets another girl, who is an orphan. They become friends and `escape' from the school one night. The police find the children and take them back to the school. The grandfather then adopts his granddaughter's friend also. Shishira says she felt at home on the sets of the serial as the role of the grandfather was played by her neighbour N. Gopalakrishnan. "The acting was fun as the set was full of children," says Shishira, a Class X student of St. Joseph's Anglo Indian Girls Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode. Shishira acted in `Manathekku Parakkan Va' when she was in Class VI. There was a break in the shooting and it was completed when she was in Class VIII. The serial was telecast when she was in Class IX. M.G. Sasi was the serial director. The script was based on a story by the writer Sarah Joseph. Shishira did not expect to win an award for her role. Thomas Mathew, Kozhikode Corporation councillor and an advocate, is Shishira's father. Her mother, Lisy Thomas, is a lecturer in English in Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode. Her elder sister, Thusara Thomas, is a Plus One student.
