Valuable contribution to school library



ACKNOWLEDGING TALENT: Forest Minister A. Sujanapal handing over a memento to S.Anand of Silver Hills HSS, Kozhikode, who won the maximum points among boys at the recently concluded State School Kalolsavam in Kochi at a function in the school.

Christopher Turner, a travel writer from the U.K., has donated his books to Ilahiya English School Atholi in Kozhikode.

Speaking at the function, Christopher said that the children here should be proud to have born in such a place like Kerala.

"They should consider it as a blessing," he said.

He lauded the library modernisation project currently on in schools in the State. Christopher, whose book London Step by Step published in 1985 won the Guidebook of the Year Award, has been coming to India for spending three months here every year since 1993.

School committee chairman K. Moidheen Koya received the books from Christopher Turner. Principal K.M. Nazeer Ahamed was among those who spoke.

Annual day

NSS UP School Meenchanda near Beypore in Kozhikode celebrated its 20th annual day at the school auditorium on Saturday. Golokananda Swamji of the Rama Krishna Mission Ashram inaugurated the function. Film artiste Kozhikode Narayanan Nair inaugurated the cultural programme. M. Jaya Raj of Mathrubhoomi, C. Chandra Sekharan Nair, chairman, NSS Taluk Union, Kozhikode, and Madana Mohanan Nair, headmaster, were among those who spoke.

Reception given

S. Anand, who won the maximum points among boys at the recently concluded State School Kalolsavam in Kochi, was accorded a reception at his school last week.

Anand, a tenth standard student of Silver Hills HSS in Kozhikode, won first in Bharatanatyam, Kuchupudi, Ottanthullal and Kathakali (single) and `A' grade in Kathakali (group) and `C' grade in Maddalam, winning 41 points. Forest Minister A. Sujanapal, who was the chief guest, handed over a memento to Anand.

Anniversary celebrated

Little India Public School at Mongam, Malappuram, celebrated its 11th anniversary on Saturday. K.N.A. Khader, MLA, inaugurated the festivities. A. Kuttialikutty, principal of Farook College, delivered the keynote address.

Husain Randathani, principal of M.E.S. Keveeyam College, Valancheri, released the school magazine.

Zonal champions

Bukhari English School, Kondotty, became the zonal champions in senior and junior categories at the Indian Association of Minority Education (IAME) Festival at Kondotty recently. Jalalia English School, Vazhakkad, won the sub-junior championship. T.K. Hamza, MP, inaugurated the festival. Ismail Wafa, IAME director, spoke.

Science club

The science club of Umbichi Haji Higher Secondary School, Chaliyam, launched its activities last week. Sethu Puzhakkal, scientist, inaugurated the club, which is supported by the school unit of the National Service Scheme.
