This Day That Age
English should continue to be the official language of the Government of India and the language for communication between the Union and State Governments and between one State Government and another. This was the unanimous view expressed by prominent leaders at a conference held in Madras on January 28 to consider and discuss the Union language issue. The conference, convened under the auspices of the Academy of Tamil Culture, Madras, a non-political organisation, was attended, among others, by Messrs. C. Rajagopalachari, P.T. Rajan, E.V. Ramaswami Naicker, Raja Sir M.A. Muthiah Chettiar, C.N. Annathurai, M.P. Sivagnanam and M. Varadarajanar.
