Letters to the Editor
The exit of Dharam Singh and the formation of a JD (S)-led Government under H.D. Kumaraswamy in Karnataka will only mark a change in the cast of the puppet show. The strings will still be held by Deve Gowda, notwithstanding his threat to go into political exile. Voters in the State have become passive spectators.
U.S. Iyer,
* * * After failing to convince his son not to align with the BJP, Mr. Gowda has thrown up his hands in despair. But his role in the current crisis has considerably dented his image.
Hema Satyakal,
* * * Instability was built into the Dharam Singh Government from day one. Mr. Gowda and his JD (S) created hurdles in its smooth functioning. The Congress too failed to manage its principal ally well. The coalition suffered from too many contradictions.
A. Vani,
* * * Mr. Gowda's resignation as president of the JD (S) is unfortunate. He should have fought to restore the secular values of the party instead of giving up.
P. Kannan,
* * * Karnataka is another example of mockery of democracy. It is a lesson for the Congress that if it wants to keep the BJP out, it should go to the people for a decisive verdict and not come to power through the back door.
B.U. Mahesh,
* * * The resignations of Natwar Singh, Buta Singh, and Dharam Singh bring to mind Shakespeare's words in Macbeth: "If it were done when `tis done, then `twere well it were done quickly."
M.L. Kantha Rao,
