Savings of SHGs in State touch Rs. 893 crores

Dharmapuri: Savings of self-help groups (SHGs) in the State has touched Rs. 893 crores. Along with this the groups have taken loans from commercial and nationalised banks to the tune of Rs. 1,500 crores for starting various economic enterprises, said the Minister for Information and Publicity and Local Administration, K. P. Anbazhagan, at the inauguration of the Multimedia exhibition and rural sports event at Karimangalam, 20 km from Dharmapuri, on Sunday.

Panchayat unions

The month-long exhibition is being conducted in all the 385 panchayat unions in the State on the directions of the Chief Minister. The exhibition will give an opportunity to the public to find out about Government-sponsored schemes at their doorsteps, he said.

Exhibits

Various departments of the State Government including the Information and Publicity, Family Welfare, Arivoli, District Rural Development Agency, Revenue, Education, Small Savings, Social Welfare, Forests, Tourism, TAHDCO, Agriculture, Horticulture and Cooperatives have put up individual exhibits to provide information to the public.

91,944 members

About 5,073 groups were formed in the district till date with 91,944 members. The SHGs have accumulated savings to the tune of Rs. 32.89 crores. With the total savings of the groups having multiplied manifold, Rs. 135.73 crores has been disbursed to group members as loans based on internal linkage. The groups have got Rs. 69.95 crores as loans from commercial and nationalised banks, Mr. Anbazhagan said.

The Government has disbursed Rs. 133.50 lakhs as revolving fund to 534 groups and Rs. 406.01 lakhs as economic loans to 161 groups under the Swarna Jayanthi Self Employment Scheme. Similarly, Rs. 16.25 lakhs has been given as revolving fund to 65 groups under the TAHDCO scheme.

Allotment

The Government has allotted Rs. 250 crores under the Basic Infrastructure Development Scheme. Of this, Rs. 9.25 crores has been allotted to Dharmapuri district.

Welfare aid

The Minister inaugurated a multimedia exhibition at Palacode union and distributed Rs. 16 lakhs towards welfare assistance to 474 beneficiaries. Collector M. Chandrasekaran; and Project Officer, DRDA, P.M. Chandrahaasan, among others attended the function.
