`Fast-learn new topics to carve bright careers'

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Multinational companies and software firms are looking for candidates who can `fast-learn' new technologies and put them to effective use while executing projects. Even management students do not use 65 to 70 per cent of what they learn in ordinary colleges when they land in a working environment, a fact that has changed the priorities of companies.

"Your ability to `fast learn' new technologies determines your success rate," says Shankar Muralidharan, project manager at Visu International, an organisation for educational consultancy. Delivering a talk on the occasion of launch of Visu's customised and specially designed course called `Speak Smart' here on Sunday, Mr. Muralidharan asked students to read and re-read important topics and get a grip on them, so that they could use them as content in their future interviews and group discussions.

Mr. Muralidharan said that about 60 per cent candidates were getting disqualified in aptitude tests. There was a misconception that mastering basic mathematics and basic English was enough, but the aptitude tests were primarily meant to know whether a candidate could think logically or not.
