VISAKHAPATNAM: Teppotsavam, the annual float festival of the presiding deity of Simhachalam, Sri Varaha Lakshmi Nrusimha Swamy, was celebrated with devotion on Sunday evening. The float festival is celebrated every year on Pushya Bahula Amavasya. On the day, Sri Varaha Laksmi Nrusimha Swamy is ceremonially brought down the hill as Sri Venugopala Swamy with His consorts Sri Devi and Bhoodevi. The Lord and His consorts were reverentially received at the foot of the hill by Executive Officer Sankara Reddy and elders of the village.
Swan-shaped float
The idols were then taken onto the colourfully decorated swan-shaped float in the Varaha pushkarini. The vahanam made the traditional three rounds around the illuminated Asthana Kalyanamandapam as the devout prayed. Special poojas were performed to the deities by head priest Morta Sitaramacharyulu and priests Godavarti Radhakrishnamacharyulu and K.K. Tiruvengalacharyulu. A large number of devotees worshipped the Lord during the utsavam. The family members of hereditary trustee Poosapati Ananda Gajapathi Raju were present.
Cultural programmes
The deities were then taken on a Tiruveedhi around the village. The devasthanam had arranged a number of cultural programmes to mark the occasion. Arrangements were made under the supervision of the Executive Officer.
