Kozhikode: People living along the National Highway 17 stretch from Thondayad to Malaparamba here are up in arms against filling of land for work on the third phase of the bypass road. A committee formed to organise protests against the move says that land on both sides of the proposed road are to be filled with sand from paddy fields and water sources between the two places. The people convened a meeting last week in this regard. The councillors M. Krishnan and N.P. Pratap Kumar were elected chairman and convenor, respectively, of the committee. The committee had warned the State Government of intensifying the agitation if its proposals were not met, Mr. Kumar said.
