Left "surprised"

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Left parties are "surprised" at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh moving Mani Shankar Aiyar from the Petroleum Ministry just days after he had signed pacts with China to establish energy grids, keeping in view the country's long-term energy demands and its security.

Sources in the Left parties said the decision showed the clear rightward shift in the domestic economic policies.

The parties said this inclination had been confirmed by entrusting the Ministry to Murli Deora, "who represents the corporate culture from Mumbai."
