Bid to promote meditation

Sandeep Joshi

NEW DELHI: Meditation, the ancient Indian form of yoga, is fast becoming popular in India as well as abroad. Yoga gurus and experts believe that if started early in life, it can prove to be very beneficial for individuals, affecting all aspects of their lives. Among many organisations promoting meditation for healthy living is the Vishvas Foundation.

To popularise meditation among students, the cultural and social organisation has been organising "Vishvas Meditation Sessions" for children studying in various South Delhi schools. It holds around 15-minute sessions, mainly during morning assembly of the school, without charging any money.

Schools that have already become a part of the programme and are benefiting from it include Kalka Public School (Alaknanda), Summerfield School (Kailash Colony), Baba Nebhraj Senior Secondary School, Hemnani Public School (both Lajpat Nagar I), and Indian School (Sadiq Nagar).

"The entire process of meditation is to reduce stress-inducing mentalities and negative state of mind enabling students to lead a life free of stress, ," says Foundation's founder and head Swami Vishvas.
