Sants boycott holy dip

Lucknow/Allahabad: Even as the sants boycotted taking bath at Allahabad Sangam due to alleged pollution of the Ganga, lakhs of devotees bathed in different rivers across the State on the festival of Mauni Amavasya on Sunday.

Over 80 lakh devotees, reportedly took the holy dip in the Ganga and the Sangam -- confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers -- on the festive bath of the ongoing month-long Magh Mela in Allahabad. The sants assembled in Allahabad during the Mela, alleging the pollution of the Ganga, have boycotted bathing festivals of Makar Sankranti and Paush Purnima.

Devotees took the dip in rivers across the state including Ganga in Varanasi, Garh Mukteshwar and Kannauj and Yamuna in Naini.
