BJP hopeful of emerging strong in South

Staff Reporter

Nellore: Senior vice-president of BJP M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that the party's success in dislodging the Dharam Singh Ministry in Karnataka provides the party gateway to enter the political scene in South India.

Addressing a press conference at Marripadu, 90 km from Nellore, on Sunday, Mr. Naidu pointed that it would have strong impact in the coming elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry. Stating that the party was keen on strengthening its base in South, he described the developments as a "new chapter in country's politics," resulting in a natural coalition.

Asked about talks between the BJP and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Mr. Naidu made it clear that there was no such proposal at the moment. Mr. Naidu was happy that the Left parties and the TRS had at last realised the true colours of the Congress.

He said that he would attend the State executive meeting of the party to be held at Palamur in Mahabubnagar district on January 30 and January 31.
