Annamalai University men win title

CHIDAMBARAM: Host Annamalai University won the title in the men's category at the inter-zone inter-university handball tournament defeating MDU (Rothak) 35-25 in the final here on Saturday. Purushotaman, Rajiv and Saravanan scored seven goals each for the winning team. GNDU (Amristar) defeated Delhi University 15-8 to take the third place.

In the women's section, Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam) edged out Punjab University 27-25 to clinch the title, while GNDU secured the third spot beating Calicut University 18-17.

HMC FC posts win

At Tiruchi, Augustine and Jesuraj scored one goal each as HMC FC blanked P.R. Thevar FC 2-0 in the Tiruchi District Football Association second division `B' zone league match here on Sunday.

Other results: In the other matches, JJ CET FC bt Challenge Union FC 1-0; Universal FC bt White Blues 2-1; Golden Arrows FC drew with National College 2-2.

Cholas wins

Cholas Hockey Club defeated Joe Joe Hockey Club 2-0 to win the super league tournament conducted by Tiruchi District Hockey Association and Tiruchi unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu here on Sunday.

Rock fort HC edged out RPF 3-1 to claim the third spot.

Inter-varsity athletic meet

The 66th all-India inter-university athletic meet will get underway at the St. John's College stadium Palayamkottai from Monday.

Being hosted by the Manonmaniam Sudaranar University for a second time since 1998, the meet as such is likely to throw up several keen and exciting tussles in the various events of the two sections.
