Lakshman, Rejimol win KRL marathon

KOCHI: N.T. Lakshman Das (Palakkad) and T.K.Rejimol (Kothamangalam) won the men's and women's titles, respectively, in the 19th KRL marathon which concluded at the St Augustine's HSS Ground, Aroor, on Sunday.

Haripad's S.Arun bagged the boys title Kothamangalam's Muthukutty Sebastian took the girls crown.

Mercy Williams, the Kochi Mayor, inaugurated the run and E.Nandakumar, GM, Kochi Refineries, gave away the prizes.

The results:

Men: 1. N.T. Lakshman Das (Pkd), 2. Pawan Kumar (Kochi), 3. S. Suresh (Klm).

Women: 1. T.K. Rejimol (Kothamangalam), 2. Emmy M. Kuriakose (Pala), 3. Jennymol Augustine (Pala).

Boys: 1. S. Arun (Haripad), 2. S.Dileep (Cherthala), 3. K.S. Sujith (Pkd).

Girls: 1. Muthukutty Sebastian (Kothamangalam), 2. Shilpa Chacko, 3. Julian Cleetus.

Veteran men: 1. P.K. Padmanabhan (Thrikaripur), 2. V. Kaladharan (Pkd), 3. P.P.Mani (Kottiyam).

Adarsh triumphs

P. Adarsh of Thiruvananthapuram defeated experienced R. Rajesh to win the men's singles title of the all-Kerala Open prize money table tennis tournament at the YMCA hall in Kottayam on Sunday.

Adarsh shrugged off a slow start to beat back the challenge of Rajesh 10-12, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, 12-10 in the final.

Pathanamthitta-Ernakulam final

Pathanamthitta will meet Ernakulam in the final of the State senior women's football championship for the Major Francis Memorial trophy at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

In the semifinals, Pathanamthitta ended the run of host Thiruvananthapuram with a comprehensive 3-1 win. Subitha (22nd and 30th) struck for the winner in the first half while Suni Philip (43rd) consolidated the lead. Angel Adolfs scored the consolation goal for host in the 50th minute. Ernakulam edged out Kozhikode by a solitary goal. Srilatha scored the match-winner in the second minute by converting a penalty.

Thebasco Trophy

The 22nd Thebasco Trophy all-Kerala basketball tournament begins at the Sacred Heart courts, Thevara, Kochi, on Monday. Four teams, BSNL (Thiruvananthapuram), KSEB, Navy, and host Thebasco Club, will figure in the men's event which is a league-cum-knockout event.
