MADURAI: Madurai Kamaraj University has begun the process of filling up teaching posts in various departments ahead of the visit of an expert team from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in March. While the formal process began on Sunday to fill up 103 lecturer posts with University Grants Commission pay scales, the university administration is keen that the appointments are made in the next two months without any hurdle. "We are following all norms including the community roster system. Any attempt to disrupt the recruitment process will be viewed very seriously," a senior official told The Hindu on Sunday. He said the SC/ST quota would get 25 of the total posts and each department was taken as an individual unit while extending the reservation system. Almost every department would get lecturers, barring five departments that had enough staff. Vice-Chancellor P. Maruthamuthu held a meeting with heads of various departments on Friday to enlist their support in filling the vacant posts within the stipulated period "so that when the NAAC team begins its visit on March 27, the university will be able to get a higher grade." Meanwhile, a Syndicate member said the administration was prepared to handle effectively the issue of a few qualified non-teaching staff members, who are on a "work arrangement" basis taking classes in various departments. They were demanding confirmation of service in teaching departments or a special representation during the exercise of filling vacant teaching posts.
