Hyderabad : The Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) has decided to create awareness among people about the asthma cure being offered by the Bathina brothers as not being `medicine'. As per the recent court directive, it can be administered as `prasadam' and not as `fish medicine', said JVV general secretary T.V. Rao. He told presspersons here on Sunday that laboratories could not establish that the substance administered contained any medicinal component. There was no proof either that it was injurious to health.
`Fish prasadam'
In an affidavit the Bathina brothers had admitted that what they were administrating was `prasadam'. By their own admission the Bathina family had failed to prove that it was a medicine. Now they could not advertise that they were offering medicine for cure of asthma and related problems. If they did so they would attract the provisions of the Drugs and Magic Act, 1945, Mr. Rao said. K.G.K. Prasad, who argued the case on behalf of the Indian Medical Association, said the method of administering the substance was unscientific as the Bathina brothers inserted the fish into mouth without wearing gloves. There was a danger of spread of contagious diseases. The JVV case against the Bathina brothers was still pending before the City Criminal Court. The latter had directed the Begum Bazar police to submit a report, Mr. Prasad said.
